The Magaliesberg is the oldest mountain range on earth and the artists who created these engravings lived and worked in the Magaliesberg Valley between the Stone Age and Iron Age. Our experts will provide a detailed history of the area, pointing out all the interesting spots along the way.

Anglo-Boer War

Nooitgedacht Battlefield Tour

Interestingly, the Plumari Private Reserve was the site of The Battle of Nooitgedacht in 1900 – the fiercest battle of the Anglo-Boer War in the Magaliesberg region. Forming part of the guerilla phase of the war, there were losses to both sides totalling 337 killed, wounded or captured.

Led by Senior Guide Rob Milne, the 4-hour tour starts in Colonel Legge’s Mounted Infantry campsite just below the cliffs of Magaliesberg mountains, moves up the summit of Nooitgedacht tracing the progress of the Boer Commandos, and ends at the mountains’ highest point, where the British force held first before retreating.
